Blog Entry #5 Is a degree relevant?

Do you believe a college degree is necessary to become a successful adult? Some people may disagree but, a many agrees including the current governor of Arizona. In an article he highlighted how education is the key to the American dream. He States '' with better-educated citizens also see economic benefits. These states have better luck recruiting and retaining quality employers, and they enjoy lower overall rates of unemployment, poverty and welfare dependency ''(Ducey).

 Even
though there have been evidence of people earning good income i.e., 6 figures without a college degree, I believe you need a college degree. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the employment rate was higher for those with higher levels of educational attainment. For example, the overall employment rate was highest for those with a bachelor’s or higher degree (87%); and lowest for those who had not completed high school (61%). Most companies hire because of years of experience but an individual with a degree and a little experience will be chosen over an individual without a degree but with more experience. Non degree holders feel stuck in their work position even if they meet the criteria to be promoted. Non-Degree holders need a degree to get promoted and earn better income, this is because companies believe that you need some level of intellectual knowledge to be able to solve certain tasks which experience only cannot offer. Graduating from college also couches you to be smarter, knowledgeable and better your financial decision compared to a non-graduate holder. Taking classes like ENG 101 and 102 in college will help improve your vocabulary and writing skills which will be useful in future.

  1. I agree with you having a college degree is nessasary. Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to do what they want to do with life without a degree and some people find what they want to do in college.

  2. True not everyone can access a college education and that is a privilege that is not a choice for many. I can agree that a college education is helpful and can be necessary to get certain jobs and opportunities. But I can also say that nowadays it may not always be necessary to live and get a job without it. Skills and experience can be as useful nowadays and can get about the same opportunities.

  3. Having a college degree is a feeling of accomplishment and the best thing you can put yourself through to set yourself up for success in your future. I enjoyed your post because it also addressed the Arizona governor's opinion on education. I just commented on Kailee's blog post about self care and I think education and self care go two in two. They are the two best things you can do for yourself. It is definitely true that a college degree helps send you on a route more likely to lead to success compared to a path that does not follow a college degree. I agree that a degree is of extreme importance! I hope your post encourages other students that read your blog to stick with the important path of their education! Great job.
